Abstract

676,259. Spray carburetters. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. March 25, 1950 [March 25, 1949], No. 7532/50. Class 7(iii) [Also in Group XXVI] A speed responsive device 4 opens an auxiliary carburetter throttle valve 22 with increasing engine speed and begins to close it above a predetermined engine speed. The main throttle valve 24 is actuated manually by a link 28 connected to a member 25 provided with a lost-motion slot 27 in which slides a pin 26 on the auxiliary throttle valve actuating-lever 21 which is connected by links 20, 17, 16 to the sliding sleeve 15 of a centrifugal governor 4. Depression of the accelerator pedal opens the valve 24 and moves the link 25 to allow the governor 4 to open the valve 22 when a predetermined speed is exceeded. The links 17, 20 are pivoted at 19 to a lever 18 rotating about the-point 30, and at the maximum desired speed the point 19 reaches a deadcentre position 19<SP>1</SP>. Above this speed the linkage closes the valve 22 and also partcloses the valve 24 when the lost-motion 27 is taken up, a resilient connection being provided between the link 28 and valve 24. The governor 4 comprises a casing 6 rotated by a belt 7 from the crank or cam shaft and integral with a sleeve 3 carrying the weights 5 which move the spring-loaded sleeve 15 along the shaft 2 through pins 9. The governor may be arranged on or driven from the ignition distributor shaft, and the carburetters may be separate or form the two branches of a dual carburetter, having a common intake passage provided with a filter. In a modification the speed responsive device comprises a diaphragm subject to cooling-water or lubricating-oil pressure, or any other fluid pressure produced in accordance with engine speed.
