Abstract

675,918. Gasefying powdered fuels. DRAWE, R. Sept. 4, 1950 (Sept. 7, 1949], No. 21795/50. Class 55 (i). Coal dust or other finelydivided fuel is gasefied in suspension by means of the heat obtained by burning in the producer combustible gas in the free oxygen of the gasefying agent, e.g. air and steam, the gas supply being regulated so that all the free oxygen is consumed. The combustible gas is introduced jointly with the gasefying agent separately from the fuel at a number of points on the periphery of the generator. In a cylindrical producer 1 four gas burners 5 and four coal dust feeders 6 alternate with each other in each of four superposed planes and are arranged so that the streams of gas and coal dust form tangents to imaginary circles. The gas in which the fuel is entrained may comprise the gas generated or other combustible gas with or without steam or steam alone. The combustible gas and oxygen-containing gasefying agent may be preheated and introduced respectively through annular and central inlets 7, 8. Adjustment of gasefying agent composition comprising oxygen and steam only, permits variation of the H 2 : CO ratio between 2: 1 and 1: 2. Under a pressure of several atmospheres with an outlet temperature lowered to 700-750‹ C. methane may be formed. The gases produced may be freed from dust and burnt in the producer. The gas and coal dust nozzles may be located in separate planes.
