Abstract

676,427. Gasefying pulverized fuel. KOPPERS CO., Inc. Dec. 24, 1948 [Dec. 29, 1947], No. 33296/48. Class 55 (i). In the process of gasefying pulverized fuel, as described in Specification 673,161, any suitable combustible gas such as a part of that produced, is continuously returned to the gasefication chamber, preferably near the outlet, to prevent any free oxygen passing to the gas storage plant on interruption of the fuel supply. In order that the gases near the outlet are above their ignition point with oxygen, the introduced gas may be preheated by mixing the combustion products of a portion burnt in oxygen with the remainder. The rate of flow of the combustible gas should ordinarily be at most about twice that of the oxygen supply.
