Abstract

521,415. Gas-groducers. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd., and SCHUFTAN, P. M. Nov. 18, 1938, No. 33553. [Class 55 (i)] Carbon monoxide is produced by consuming solid carbonaceous fuel with a mixture of oxygen and carbon dioxide, the latter being obtained by oxidizing carbonaceous material in a secondary combustion chamber, and the carbon monoxidebeing withdrawn from the producer at a temperature of 1,000‹ C. or higher. The producer 1 delivers to a cooler 3, which may comprise a boiler, and the bulk of the gas passes through a conduit 4 to storage. A minor part passesthrough a valve 8 to a combustion chamber 6 supplied with. oxygen through a pipe 9, and the product is fed to the producer. The chamber 6 may be the cylinder of an engine coupled to an electric generator 10.
