Abstract
526,843. Gas-producers. ADLER, R. March 27, 1939, No. 9502. [Class 55 (i)] Activated carbon and power gas are obtained in a gas-producer by so increasing the speed of the fuel through the producer that the. fuel is only partly gasified, steam being admitted in excess of the usual amount, so that carbon dioxide in this combustion zone is completely converted into carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and a residue containing ash and clinker and from 50 to 95 per cent. of carbon is obtained. The carbon in the residue is activated in an incandescent zone which is maintained at 1,200‹ to 1,600‹C. A central tube C in the lower hot zone forms an inner cylindrical compartment D and an annular outer compartment E. Air or an air-steam mixture enters by a pipe H through a grate G. Steam or another activating medium such as CO 2 is admitted through a pipe K, and the residue is discharged at J from a rotating pan I. An agitator L breaks up the fuel from which the gases escape through an outlet 17. Specification 516,645 is referred to.
