Abstract
749,311. Gas-producers. KOPPERS GES., H. April 28, 1953 [May 10, 1952; April 13, 1953], No. 11751/53. Class 55( 1 ). In plant for gasifying solid fuels in suspension with oxygen with or without endothermic reacting media the reaction space and a steam generating space heated by the gases produced form a unit such that a drop in the temperature of the gases in passing directly to the boiler space is avoided. In one form a vertical refractory lined producer is surmounted by a shaft of the same cross-section containing the vertical tubes of a water tube boiler the water and steam collecting spaces of which form part of the gas-tight metal casing of the whole plant so as to be accessible from outside. In another embodiment the producer is located above the boiler, both gases and fuel residue descending through the boiler. Or the boiler may be located in a separate space 35 through which the hot gases pass to outlets 36, the first stage producing steam at e.g. 2 atmospheric pressure comprising a water-jacketed space 32 from which steam passes to a collector 44 also connected with a jacket 48 surrounding the watertube boiler. Steam at about 30-40 atmospheres may be generated in the second stage.
