783,054. Gasifying pulverulent fuel. KOPPERS GES., H. Feb. 28, 1956 [March 15, 1955], No. 6232/56. Class 55 (1). [Also in Group XIII] The sensible heat of gas generated in a gasifying chamber 1 into which fuel, for example pulverized coal, and oxygen are supplied through water-cooled nozzles 2 is utilized to raise steam in a boiler 7 which is mounted directly above the chamber 1. The boiler consists of a cylindrical vessel in which is disposed a central tube 8 the lower end of which abuts the gas discharge opening 5 of the gasifier. A series of return tubes 10 are arranged in concentric rows around the tube 8, the lower ends of these tubes opening into a chamber 11 from which pipes 12, in which are disposed superheaters 15, lead to cyclone dust separators 13. The upper ends of the tubes 8, 10 open into a gas reversing chamber containing a superheater 27, the chamber being closed by a domed cover having a water jacket in which feed water is preheated. Gases and entrained ungasified fuel from chamber 1 pass upwardly through the tube 8 wherein gasification continues and the tube is heated radiantly. The gases pass from the tube 8 over the superheater tubes 27 and through the tubes 10 into the chamber 11 wherein the larger particles of dust are deposited. Some of this dust is returned in the hot state to the chamber 1 through pipes 18 whilst the rest discharges at 17. Fine dust is removed in the separators 13 from which gas is withdrawn through pipes 14. Preheated water enters the shell 7 through a pipe 22, the steam generated being conducted to a steam collector through a pipe 23.
