Abstract

675,318. Hat-blocking machines. COOPER CO., Ltd., A. H. Jan. 18, 1951 [Jan. 23, 1950; Sept. 13, 1950], Nos. 1769/50 and 22555/50. Class 63. A hat-blocking machine for hats where the margin of the blank is turned inwards into the crown has a male die 2 mounted on a pillar 4 and a sleeve 14 slidable on the pillar. Yoke arms 18 of a hand lever 16 are pivoted to lugs 20 of the sleeve 14 and by links 22 to the pillar base 6. As shown, the base 6 is secured to a plate 8 of a press having a fixed female die 10. A hat body 24 is secured by string 26 to a groove 28 on the sleeve which follows the contour of the male die brim, the plate 8 is raised, to bring the dies 2 and 10 together to press the hat crown, and then the handle 16 is raised to move the sleeve upwards into the male die. An adjustable stay 30 may be provided to keep the sleeve in the raised position. Gas rings 31, 33 are provided to heat the parts. The die 2 and the top part of the sleeve 14 are removable so that they can 'be replaced for different hat designs. If the crown of the hat has no concavities, the action of the sleeve is sufficient to blank the hat and the pillar 4 can be mounted directly on a bench. Specification 677,445 is referred to.
