667,728. Hats; pressing and shaping; ventilating. MACLACHLAN HATS, Inc. March 24, 1950, No. 7500/50. Class 63. A-hat press for producing corrugations at the inside of the front quarter of the crown adjacent to and extending into the under face of the brim to provide ventilation comprises a base plate 10 having a recess 17 shaped to support a hat in an inverted position and a corrugating head 12. The head 12 is mounted on double arms 26 pivoted at 30 to the base and having a forwardly extending locking arm 34 ending in a pivoted handle 36. The handle 36 has a locking head 36a which engages a recess 43 in a keeper bar 38 which is pivoted at 39 to a plate secured to the front of the base. Springs 44, 44a attached to the base urge the keeper bar forward at the top so that when it is engaged by the head 36a the head 12 is pressed forward to impress the hat thus providing air passages into the crown for ventilation.
