Abstract

728,059. Hat-blocking machines. VILLIERS & CIE., L. March 14, 1952 [Jan. 28, 1952], No. 6723/52. Addition to 626,352 Class 63. A hat-blocking machine for hats having an inturned brim and made of material which cannot be pressed such as coarse plaiting straw, comprises a block mounted on a flange 6 fixed to a tube 5 guided for vertical movement in another tube 4 fixed to the centre of a base 3 which rests on a platen 12 of a press. The base of the tube 5 rests on a ring 21 supported on a stop ring 22 by rods 8. A hat blank is placed over the block and is secured in a groove 10 of a sleeve 9 mounted on the base 3 and depression of a pedal of the press causes the platen 12 to rise and thus raise the base 3 and sleeve 9 to turn in the brim, as shown at the left hand side of the Figure while at the same time a cable 14 pulls a rod 13 attached to the block which is thus engaged upon the sleeve and the hat is shaped without any pressing.
