Abstract

622,389. Forging-machines. SMITH, S. March 18, 1947, No. 7409. [Class 83 (iv)] A rotary swaging-machine comprising a stationary head carrying radially movable dies which are periodically driven inwards by rollers carried in a surrounding fly-wheel and acting through intermediary hammer blocks also carried in the die head, is provided with adjustable wedges between the dies and the hammer blocks. A stationary hollow spindle a mounted in a pedestal b carries a die-head a<SP>1</SP> formed with transverse slots a<SP>2</SP> (not shown) housing dies c and hammer blocks d actuated by rollers e carried by a rotary fly-wheel f surrounding the head a<SP>1</SP>. Between the dies and hammer blocks are wedges g adjustable by means of a carrier g<SP>2</SP>, g3, operated by a pedal g<SP>6</SP>. The amount of movement of each hammer block may be limited and adjusted by wedges h housed partly in a groove in one side of the block and partly in another groove in the side of the transverse slot a<SP>2</SP>. The wedges h are individually adjustable by screws h<SP>1</SP> and lock-nuts h<SP>2</SP>. Specification 570,723 is referred to.
