Abstract

674,759. Load-handling machines. WEAN ENGINEERING CO., Inc. Sept. 6, 1949. [Sept. 10, 1948] No. 23059/49. Class 78 (iii). [Also in Group II] A strip-treating apparatus in which a continuous strip is to be lifted out of the treating liquid has a device consisting of a lifting element extending vertically through the tank cover and having a strip supporting portion inside the tank which may be moved into engagement with the strip, and means outside the tank for lifting and lowering the lifting element. A pickling tank for cleaning metals has a crosshead 19, movable vertically by the ram 14 and which carries L-shaped arms 26 having a strip supporting portion 27. The arms can be rotated about their vertical axes to dispose portions 27 parallel to the length of the strips 7 or as shown in chain lines, can be pivoted to engage the strips when the latter may be raised from the bath. The crosshead 19 is guided vertically by members 10.
