Abstract
881,061. Pooling furnace charges. WILD-BARFIELD ELECTRIC FURNACES Ltd. Aug. 4, 1960 [Aug. 4, 1959], No. 26637/59. Class 51 (2). A heat-treatment furnace 1 with a pneumatically-operated door 2 has an anti-chamber 6 with a second pneumatically - operated door 7 above a quench tank 9 with conventional liquid recirculation. Platforms 10, 11 are carried in guides by a pneumaticallyoperated hoist 12. A basket 5 of heated work is moved on rollers from the furnace 1 to the lower platform 11, which is lowered into the tank 9. The upper platform 10 is lowered at the same time until it rests on stops at the level of the furnace exit. The lower platform 11 descends until it actuates a switch to operate a shaft carrying cams which engage the platform 11 and reciprocate it up and downin the tank. During the quench period, the outer door 7 is opened and a further basket ofwork moved into the anti-chamber 6 from a trolley 14 having a catch 15 to hold it in position. The door 7 is closed, the antechamber 6 purged, and the fresh work moved into the furnace 1. After the door 2 is reclosed and the quench period completed, the hoist 12 raises platforms 10, 11 to their original positions, and the quenched work unloaded from platform 11 to the trolley 14.
