[Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] In a conveyer having an intermittent feed movement for transfering articles suspended from bars 15 through baths 10, 11, which articles are adapted normally to be supported on the upper edges of the baths so as to depend therein, a carriage 23 is provided which reciprocates along a track 25 disposed vertically above the line of baths, said carriage having a carrier frame 13 suspended therefrom so as to be raised and lowered whilst being moved longitudinally with the carriage and forming a covering for the baths and being so constructed (e.g. with wall portions 16 outside the bath, each portion with flaps 26 movable into engage. ment with bars 15 by toggle joints 27) that, when raised to engage the bars, certain of the latter will remain within the bath whilst others will be lifted clear of the bath, both being moved along together. Thus, in the example, in order to avoid articles 12c, 12d being taken out of the bath whilst being moved along the bath, the top set of flaps is moved outwards and the bottom set moved inwards so that the latter contact the bars suspended from the long bath, and the articles, because they are not elevated so far, remain immersed as they are moved forwards. The carriage 23 may be motivated by a cam and the movement thereof may be accelerated at the start and decelerated towards the end of a cycle. Inclined ribs may also be provided on each bath to guide the carrier in its descending motion.
