674,631. Buckles. SPENCER (BANBURY), Ltd. (Berger Bros. Co.). Dec. 16, 1949 [Dec. 16, 1948], No. 32622/48. Class 43. A buckle comprises a frame 1 including a main cross-bar 3 against which a bar 8, slidably engaging two sides of the frame, clamps a strap, a slot 10 being g provided adjacent said cross-bar 3 for the passage of the strap after it has been passed under the slide 8 and over the crossbar 3, and means e.g. a slot 12, Fig. 3, or a hinged loop 15, Fig. 11, being provided at the end of the frame remote from the slot 10 for attaching the buckle to an article. The frame 1 is bent back at an angle of approximately 35 degrees adjacent the slot 10 to facilitate sliding of the strap through the latter. The clamping edges 6, 7 of the crossbar 3 and slide 8 respectively are scalloped, a lip 9 which extends from the edge 7 of the slide 8 being bent down to lie under the cross-bar 3 when the buckle is in use; the bar 8 is transversely arcuate, and its back edge is reinforced by bending under a narrow strip 13 thereof. The sides 1, 2 of the frame may be curved so that the buckle conforms to the curve of the body of a wearer. The parts are preferably of metal, but other rigid material, e.g. synthetic resinous material, vulcanized natural or synthetic rubber or polythene may be used.
