Abstract

673,787. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems; valves. DE FREES, J. N. Oct. 25, 1950, No. 25970/50. Class 135. A discharge valve for use in storage tanks for inflammable liquids, etc. comprises a spring-closed valve member 19 with a resilient facing 20, and a flexible diaphragm 33 by which the valve is opened by air pressure under manual control admitted to a chamber 35. A bail 40 on a valve stem 25 enables the valve to be opened manually from within the tank. A fusible plug 43 vents the chamber 35 in the event of fire, whilst a notch 14b is formed in the casing of the valve so that if the valve is subjected to violent impact the lower part of the casing is broken off instead of the bottom of the tank being torn. The diaphragm is so shaped that when it is raised it leaves no pockets in which liquid may collect.
