673,720. Magnetic compositions. ALADDIN INDUSTRIES, Inc. Dec. 29, 1949 [Jan. 3, 1949], No. 33267/49. Class 38 (ii). A magnetic core for use in coils and transformers requiring a high Q at frequencies above 200 m/s. contains as its major constituent a complex compound of composition corresponding, with variations in the proportions of metal oxides of 10 per cent from theoretical values, to the formula where M is a nickel or cobalt atom. The composition is made by mixing the finely-divided oxides (Fe 2 O 3 , Ni 2 O 3 and Co 2 O 3 ); firing at 2000-2500‹ F., moulding under pressure the powdered product with an organic resinous, organo-silicon or silicate binder and heating between 1800‹ and 2350‹ F. Zinc oxide and/or vanadium oxide with sufficient iron oxide to neutralize them may be added to increase the frequency range of satisfactory performance. The thermal drift may be lowered by addition of a small amount of magnesium zirconate to which may be added a little lead titanate. Specification 673,719 is referred to.
