Abstract

683,722. Magnetic compositions. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 29, 1951 [July 4, 1950], No. 16635/50. Class 38 (ii). A ferromagnetic ferrite composition is made by producing a mixture of manganeze, zinc and ferric iron oxides by decomposing the oxalates of the metals in the presence of a small amount of flexing material which may be kaolin, silica or kieselguhr, and then heating the mixture. The resultant mixture is then compressed at about 25 tons/sq. in. and heated in nitrogen at 1000-1300‹ C. for three to six hours. A manganese zinc ferrite composition may be made containing 48.4 per cent iron, 13.86 per cent zinc, and 10.46 per cent manganese. Figures are given of permeabilities and losses for various compositions containing 1-1.5 per cent kaolin, and for a composition containing 0.5 per cent kaolin and subject to six hours heating at different temperatures. The Provisional Specification refers to compositions comprising also the oxides of cadmium, magnesium, nickel, cobalt, copper, ferrous iron, and of chromium or manganic manganese, and to manganese zinc ferrites with 0.5 per cent kieselguhr, and 0.25 and 0.75 per cent of kaolin.
