Abstract
673,719. Magnetic compositions. ALADDIN INDUSTRIES, Inc. Dec. 29, 1949 [Jan. 3, 1949], No. 33266/49. Class 38 (ii). A magnetic core suitable for use in the 76.5-108 Mc/sec. frequency range is made by combining cobalt and nickel ferrites which have been formed separately by heating cobalt and nickel oxides with iron oxide in about the molecular proportions of 1 of Co 2 O 3 or Ni 2 O 3 to 2 of Fe 2 O 3 . The ferrites produced by heating at 2000-2500 F. are powdered and mixed in equal proportions or with an excess of one up to 25 per cent with zinc ferrite similarly formed or with separate equal proportions of nickel oxide and iron oxide, and also with fairly small amounts of magnesium zirconate and vanadium oxide with further iron oxide to combine with the latter. The mixture is moulded with a resinous binder such as the reaction products of phenol-aldehydes, ureaaldehydes, vinyl polymers and copolymers, polyacrylates and polystyrene, heated to a compact body at 1800-2550 F. when the binder is burnt away, and cooled at about 100 F. per hour. Up to 25 per cent of the magnesium zirconate may be replaced by lead titanate. The core has good Q and low thermal drift. Specification 673,720 is referred to.
