Abstract

752,156. Magnetic compositions. BUFFET, P. June 23, 1954 [July 9, 1953], No. 18444/54. Class 38 (2). A permanent magnet is made by heating together metallic oxide powders comprising Fe 3 O 4 and Fe 2 O 3 in the weight ratio of between 2.5 and 3.3. to 1, and another oxide, preferably Co.O. Preferably the ratio of Fe 3 O 4 to Fe 2 O 3 is between 2.5 and 2.9 and the ratio of Cobalt oxide to total iron oxide is between 2.1 to 2.8. The magnetic properties of such a magnet are particularly stable and reproducible. The mixture may be heated to between 950‹ and 1050‹ C. in an inert gas such as nitrogen.
