Abstract
672,562. Lifting - truck propelling and steering handles. COLLIS & SONS, Ltd., J. Feb. 2, 1951 [March 17, 1950], No. 6706/50. Class 108(ii) In a lifting truck, stacking machine, or other vehicle, having a pivoted handle for propelling and steering the handle 1C houses a tension spring 14 anchored a t one end 14a to the handle, and at the other end preferably by means of a chain 16 to a point 18 on the steering head 11. The arrangement is such that when the handle is displaced o v e r - tentre from its position of rest (Fig. 1.) the spring 14 tends to return the handle to its upright position. The handle 10 is pivoted at 19 to the head 11. A member 22 pivoted at 23 to the handle 11, has a nose 24 which engage a link of the chain 16. On deflection of the handle to the operative position (Fig. 2, the spring 14 is deflected. The movement of the member 22 brings about an additional extension of the chain 16. This increases the tension and consequently the restoring force of the spring 14. The action of the spring 14 is augmented by a compression spring 20. The tension of the spring 14 may be adjusted by means of a screw 26.
