Abstract
671,663. Brake rigging adjuster. NOYES, R. C. (Soc. Generale Isothermos). Oct. 27, 1948, No. 27908/48. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 30, 1949.] Class 103 (i). A brake rigging adjustment device of the type described in Specification 520,922 is improved so as to prevent accidental shocks tending to lengthen the rigging from doing so unless they exceed a very high value but, so as to provide for the normal lengthening of the rigging when this is necessary during an ordinary brake application. This operation is provided for by arranging for the strong spring 29 to act through sleeve 14 and member 18 to keep the members 11 pressed hard up against the locking balls 12 when the brake is not being actuated. A cam slope 41 on the rigging member 36 acts through the roller 40 to rotate the lever 39 clockwise, as soon as the brake is actuated, and through roller 37 to press the sleeve 14 to the right against spring 29, thereby unlocking the balls 12 and allowing an extension of the two-part rod 1, 2 to take place if this is necessary.
