Abstract

669,666. Centrifugal fans. SILTO SOC. ANON. Aug. 25, 1949. [Nov. 27, 1948]. No. 22114/49. Class 110(i). [Also in Group XI] The rotor 1 of a fan is made at least in part of a magnetic material, e.g. soft iron, whereby rotation of the rotor 1 between electromagnets 10 induces eddy currents in the rotor to heat air impelled by the fan. In the example shown, the fan is of the centrifugal type and comprises blades 2 between discs 3 all mounted on a shaft 4 in a casing 6, the fan being mechanically driven. The entire rotor, or the discs 3 alone, are of magnetic material, and the electromagnets 10 are mounted on partitions 11 of similar material. Air is drawn in at 8 and ejected at 9. In a modification, Fig. 3, the rotor comprises a disc 16 with blades 17 on its flat surfaces.
