668,335. Valves. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., RIX, J. R., and APPLEBY, W. V. July 24, 1950 [Aug. 4, 1949], No. 20276/49. Classes 7(ii) and 7(vi) A valve guide 6, which is a press fit in bores 8, 9 in the water jacket walls and is in direct contact with the water, is provided with packings 12, 15 to seal the joints, the press fit alone being relied upon to maintain the inner packing 12 under compression and thereby maintain its effectiveness. The packing 12 is compressed between shoulders 13, 14 on the jacket wall and guide, and the packing 15 is compressed within a cup-shaped washer 16 held in position by the valve-spring 17; the upper end of which bears on a cupped washer 18 accommodating a resilient .cushioning washer 19.
