Abstract
667,678. Stapling. WALTER INSTRUMENTS, Ltd., NOAD, J. E. G., and ARMSTRONG, C. J. March 21, 1950 [March 22, 1949], No. 7821/49. Class 89 (iii). A stapling or nailing appliance comprising a base 1 to which is pivoted an arm 5 carrying a magazine 13 and a spring-raised driving plunger 8 is provided with a full-stroke mechanism consisting of a spring-pressed detent 37 which cooperates with notches 32, 33 in a channel member 24 which carries the plunger 8. A second detent 42 is spring-pressed towards the first detent 37 and is provided with a projection 45 which engages over the detent 37 upon completion of a driving stroke to hold the latter disengaged while the plunger 8 is returned by its spring 27. A plate 26 in the channel member 24 co-operates with an arm 44 on the detent 42 to free the detent 37 when the plunger reaches its normal upper position. The magazine 13 is held to the arm 5 by a movable catch 19 and limited movement of the arm and magazine away from the base 1 is permitted by a pin 21 carried by a spring 22 on the magazine co-operating with an aperture 23 in the base 1.
