666,984. Belt gearing. POESCHL, R., POESCHL, W., (trading as ROHRBACHER LEDERFABRIK. JOS. POESCHL'S SOHNE). Sept. 30, 1948 [March 9, 1942; Nov. 20, 1942], Nos. 25539/48, 25540/48. Class 80 (i). Belt-tensioning means in which the driving or driven machine is pivotally mounted is combined with means to increase the adhesion between a flat or V belt and pulley. A motor 1 is pivoted on an axis 7 spaced from the axis of the driving pulley 2 by an amount equal to or less than the radius of the pulley. The weight of the motor provides a constant belt-tensioning moment and the torsional reaction of the drive on the motor provides a moment proportional to the driving torque. Adhesion between belt and pulley may be increased by grinding or polishing the pulley, or covering it with friction-increasing material, and/or using the smooth side of the belt. In a modification the motor is supported in a cradle which may have several bearing holes to allow various positionings of the pivotal axis. Specifications 442,904, 450,753 and U.S.A.
