Abstract
585,647. Machinery frames; belt gearing. DAWSON, W. W. Nov. 20, 1944, No. 23067. [Classes 80 (i) and 80 (iv)] A grindstone 50, or other small domestic appliance, is mounted on a base 54 one end of which bears against a wall of an angle iron 17 on the support 10 and the other end 55 of which is inclined to co-operate with an inclined abutment 22. The appliance is driven by a belt 57 from a motor 43 pivoted to the support below the appliance and carrying a pulley 47 which hangs in the bight of the driving belt whereby the weight of the motor serves to tension the belt and also to hold the base 54 of the appliance against the abutment 22 to prevent accidental removal. A U-shaped bearing support 23 is also pivoted to the support 10 at 25 and carries, in bearings 27, a countershaft 28 which has pulleys 29, 30. When it is desired to drive a low speed appliance, e.g., a meat grinder, a belt is disposed over pulley 29 and a second belt is passed over pulleys 30, 47. The support 23 is swung upwardly into a substantially horizontally position and is held by a hook 48 attached to the support while the belt on pulley 29 is trained over the pulley on the shaft of the appliance, after which, the hook is disengaged. Thus the weights of the motor and of the support 23 serve to tension the two belts and hold the appliance in position.
