Abstract

664,294. Mudguards. ANTWERP, L. S. VAN. April 29, 1949 [July 12, 1948], No. 11430/49. Class 136(i) In a device for locking a fender shield 12 relative to a vehicle wheel opening 14 in a fender 10, a latching element 28 is retained on the shield 12 in locking engagement with the fender 10 by means of a bearing member 34 engaging the latch 28 and a locking member 44 operable by a key yieldingly urging the latch against the bearing member. The latch 28 is pivoted to the fender shield at 26 and has an angulated upper end 30 engageable behind the fender 10 and an offset lower end 32 which engages the bearing member 34 when the latch is in locking engagement with the fender. A key operated barrel 38 is pivotally carried by the fender shield 12 and yieldingly bears upon the latch 28 and forces it into frictional engagement with the bearing member 34. The shield 12 has a marginal flange 16 engaging behind the wheel opening 14 in the fender 10.
