Abstract
663,784. Spray carburetters. CATT, F. A. Dec. 6, 1949 [Dec. 7, 1948 ; Dec. 7, 1948], Nos. 31604/48 and 31692/48. Class 7(iii) A carburetter comprises a slidable member 13 forming an adjustable Venturi with a choke member 12 in which are formed fuel orifices 28, 30, the member 13 forming the sole means for adjusting, during operation, the amount; of air, fuel and combustible mixture passing through the carburetter. Fuel from the float chamber 32 is emulsified at jets 22, 23 and flows through pipes 24, 25 to annular chambers 26, 29 feeding respectively the two sets of fuel orifices 28, 30, the outlets of which air inlet of the jet 22 at starting. A valve member 13, controlled by the accelerator pedal, is raised, an increasing number of fuel orifices passes to the engine side thereof to provide good atomization of the fuel. A piece of gauze 19 breaks up any fuel drops, and a valve actuated manually or by a temperature responsive device may be provided to close the emulsifying air inlet of the jet 22 at starting. A valve controlled by a suction-actuated diaphragm is opened, when the engine is overrunning, to admit air to a passage 31 to destroy the suction in the passage 24 and put the jet 22 out of operation. The diaphragm may also be used to actuate a 'spark-advance mechanism.
