Class 120(ii) Textile ring spinning, doubling and twisting machines have their lifter rails (spindle or ring rails) connected across the machine by horizontal cross-members guided to follow a vertical path, the rails and cross-members being suspended from chains or equivalent members hanging from and actuated by intergeared shafts driven by a power-transmitting element extending throughout the length of the machine and into a headstock. In one embodiment, spindle rails 6 are suspended from chains 23 passing over sprockets 22. The sprockets 22 may be geared together by spur wheels 16, or by two idler spur wheels, or by cross-connected chain-and-sprocket gearing. The rails 6 are counterbalanced by weights 26 hung from pulleys 28 on shaft 11. Shaft 10 is connected to a reciprocating shaft of a building motion in the headstock 14. Crossmembers 7, between the spindle rails 6, may have either one or two slide blocks 8, each guided in grooves 5 in the spring pieces. In another embodiment, the spindles may be suspended from chains passing over pulleys on transverse shafts driven by a chain from the headstock. The machine may be constructed from unitary sections, each section having independent electric motor drive to the spindles.
