Abstract

736,743. Spinning mules &c. T.M.M. (RESEARCH), Ltd. Aug. 16, 1954 [Aug. 17, 1953], No. 22600/53. Class 120(2). The carriage of a mule, twiner or the like is reciprocated by an endless chain which has unidirectional movement. In one construction, a driving shaft driven through an electro-magnetic slip coupling, as described in Specification 732,665, drives through two parallel chains a pair of short countershafts driving two other parallel chains 27 between which a pin 31 carrying a slide block 32 extends. The slide block 32 engages in a vertical slot 33 in a bracket 34 fixed to the carriage. Similar mechanism is preferably provided at each end of the carriage, thus providing a squaring motion. Instead of the slide block 32 and bracket 34, a drag link may be pivoted on the pin 31 and also to a pin fixed to the carriage. In embodiments employing a single driving chain, either a single slide block may be used or two slide blocks attached to opposite sides of a pin 31 to engage in two brackets 34, one of them suitably modified to pass over the shafts carrying the reversing sprockets.
