Class 110(iii) [Also in Group XI] A starting means for an internal combustion prime mover, e.g. a gas turbine or jet-propulsion engine, comprising an apparatus for electrically-firing a cartridge adapted to supply a quantity of compressed gas, has in combination a fuel pump a driven by an electric motor e, and a switch o responsive to the liquid fuel pressure in the system for controlling the circuit of the cartridge firing means. On closing a switch g the motor e drives the pump a to supply fuel to a main burner tube c through a non- return valve b and to a pilot burner i, the latter being ignited by an electric ignition device energized by an induction coil k. When the fuel pressure in the tube c reaches a predetermined value the switch o closes to fire the cartridge m if a further switch n is closed.
