In an improved construction of cargo-carrying ship a plurality of movable structures is mounted in line to provide a longitudinal vertical centre line division or bulkhead to prevent movement of bulk cargo in one operative position and in another operative position to form an additional deck for parcel cargo. An upper row of panels 9 hinged at their lower edges 10 to pillars 11 spaced in line along the centre of the ship, and lower panels 12 hinged at their upper edges 13 to the pillars 11, are disposed in the centre-line plane of the ship to separate the hold into port and starboard compartments 7 and 8. The upper panels 9 may be swung down, and the lower panels 12 up into a horizontal plane to form a deck. If not wide enough to extend to the side wall 1, the deck may be supported on pillars 20 hinged to the panels and completed by complementary panels 25 hinged at their lower edges 26 to the framing 27 of the side wall 1 and held in a raised position A when bulk cargo is carried, the panels being lowered to a horizontal position to complete the deck, in which position pillars 28 pivotally attached at 29 rest on a foot 30 on the bottom of the hold 15 to form a support.
