Abstract
661,460. Lathe &c. tool-holders. ENSTONE, A. C. Nov. 4, 1949, No. 28289/49. Class 83 (iii). [Also in Group XXIII] A non-rotating tool-holder for lathes and other machine-tools comprises a body 1 having an open recess 1a with parallel plane faces separating an upper resilient clamping portion 1d and a lower rigid supporting portion 1e, between which a tool or adaptor therefor can be clamped in angularly-adjusted position by a screw 2 or the like passing through the tool or adaptor. The slot la is narrowed to a slit 1b which extends along part of the length of the body before being terminated by an end-surface Ic inclined to the axis of the body. The screw 2 engages threads in the member 1e to clamp the adaptor 4 and passes either through a hole in the adaptor or, in the event of it being required to remove the adaptor without removing the screw, through a recess extending to the end thereof. The tool 3, which can be replaced by other tools housed in a recess If in the body 1, is clamped in an inclined or axial position in the adaptor by a screw 5. An extension 4b of the tool-slot 4a may be provided for purposes of ejecting the tool. The tool 7, Fig. 4, or a bar is positioned laterally of the adaptor 6 to facilitate boring operations or gauging by means of a dial. In a modification, the resilient member 1d may be formed separately and built on to the holder 1 by means of screws.
