Abstract

661,366. Electron beam apparatus. PATELHOLD PATENTVERWERTUNGS- & ELEKTRO-HOLDING AKT.-GES. Aug. 25, 1947 [Aug. 23, 1946], No. 23423/47. Class 39 (i). In a cathode-ray tube such as for use as a multi-channel pulse distributer, intensity control of the electron beam in the region between the anode of a system for accelerating the electrons and a catcher electrode, with constant electron emission at the cathode, is effected by alteration of the potential, of a saddle point. The electrode system for the intensity control comprises a retarding electrode next to the anode and a control electrode next to the catcher electrode; the potential and position of the retarding and control electrodes are so chosen that the saddle point lies between the retarding electrode and the catcher electrode. The electron beam is focused at the saddle point and the saddle point has a potential approximately equal to that of the cathode. The anode is connected with the anode of the electron beam producing system. Diaphragms constituting the electrodes of the control system may have circular apertures or slots. A multi-channel pulse distributer comprises a number of control systems which may be arranged in a circle with half the control systems constituting a transmission system and half a receiving system, the electron beam scanning control systems of each such system alternately. The control systems may be arranged in lines or columns. As shown, Fig. 10, the control systems are arranged in parallel planes 101, 102, and the planes are scanned in turn by means of the deflection systems 103, 105, plane 102 being scanned when the voltages on the deflection system 103 are periodically reduced to zero; focal distance of the main lens 106 is varied correspondingly, for example by means of an auxiliary lens 107. An auxiliary lens may also be provided to adjust the focus for the control systems located at the edges of the planes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a control system provided with a further retarding electrode between the first retarding electrode and the anode. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
