Abstract
661,041. Angular bending. REDMAN TOOLS & PRODUCTS, Ltd., and REDMAN, A. M. March 24, 1950 [Dec. 24, 1948], No. 33265/48. Class 83 (iv). In a machine for bending and shaping strip &c. metal a stationary former 16 is secured to a bridge member 15 and a frame 23 on a fulcrum 22 carries a fluid cylinder 34 acting through a roller 42 on the back of a sliding die 37 supported on the frame to press the work-piece on to the former. In order to traverse the die 37 about the former the position of the fulcrum 22 is varied by two fluid cylinders 26 positioned at right angles to one another and with rams 28 hinged to the fulcrum. The operation is started with the work-piece clamped to the former and the fulcrum in position 53, Fig. 4, and pressure is applied by the cylinder 34 to profile the workpiece. By manipulation of the cylinders 26 the fulcrum is shifted from position 53 to position 55, the frame gradually swinging from position 52 to position 56 to allow the die 37 to shape the work-piece with an ironing action. The machine is then reset and the further shaping is completed in three more stages. Pressure on the die 37 may be varied when producing forms of non-uniform section by a cam rotating with the frame 23 controlling the valve of the cylinder 34. The fulcrum cylinders may be controlled by cams rotating with the frame. Specification 665,560 is referred to.
