Abstract

598,854. Making hollow - ware. ERICSSON, E. E. Sept. 21, 1945, No. 24434. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Spinning.-A method of'making hollow-ware such as cooking utensils, in which a circular metal plate is spun over a rotating pattern by means of pressure tools movable along the pattern, is characterised in that during the spinning process the pressure or forming tools are immediately followed by one or more smoothing tools in sliding contact with the work. In one form, Fig. 1, a disc 2 is held against the end of a rotating cylindrical pattern 1 by a rod 4 and is spun over the sides of the pattern by pressure rollers 3. The frame in which the rollers are mounted and bv which they are traversed also carries a smoothing steel 10 which immediately follows the rollers and evens out any irregularities occurring in the surface. In a modified form, Fig. 3, for shaping conical vessels, the smoothing steel 10 is secured to a cross-bar 17 at the lower ends of members 16 depending from followers 12 adapted to slide along a stationary pattern 13 which may be adjusted by screws 20 to the angle of the conical pattern 1.
