Abstract

835,322. Forging. APPEL PROCESS Ltd. Aug. 16, 1957, No. 25860/57. Class 83 (4). In a swaging machine having a set of radially acting dies 11 adapted to act on a workpiece W, curved wedges 20, 21 are provided for varying the stroke positions of the dies. The latter are actuated through members 12 by transversely reciprocated drivers 13 as described in Specification 833,813. These drivers have concave cam surfaces 16 co-operating with rollers 17 engaging in similar cam surfaces on the members 13 and on backing members 18 which are supported against a fixed structure 22 through pairs of oppositely movable curved wedges 20, 21. A stroke-adjusting piston 30, Fig. 3, working in a fluid-pressure cylinder 31 is connected by links 35, 36 to a hair of rings 32, 32 rotatable on a central boss 34. These rings are also connected by pairs of links 38, 39 with the wedges 20, 21 whereby the latter are moved together or apart, for varying the stroke, by movement of the piston 30. The lengths of the links 38, 39 are adjustable by nuts 42 for varying each wedge independently. Specification 797,518 also is referred to.
