Abstract

1373408 Punching; stamping P C PEDDING- HAUS and W PEDDINGHAUS [trading as PAUL FERD PEDDINGHAUS] 5 Nov 1971 [5 Nov 1970 (2)] 51528/71 Headings B3W and B3Q A punching, or stamping machine has an operating lever one end of which is arranged to move a punching etc. tool through a working stroke when the other end is acted on by at least one eccentric in direct engagement therewith, the or each eccentric being mounted in the machine frame and rotated in a direction corresponding to the direction of pivoting of the lever at the start of the punching stroke, the arrangement being such that at the beginning of the working stroke the lever engages the cam at the point on the cam periphery closest to the axis of rotation of the cam, whereby during 180 degree rotation of the cam from the beginning of the working stroke, the movement exerted by the lever on the stamping or punching member increases and then decreases according to a substantially sinusoidal function. In a punching machine, Fig. 1, the operating lever comprises a pair of arms 11 and (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), pivoted to frame plates 4, 4a by a shaft 9 and connected at one end to a punch ram 5 by means of a shaft 12. The shaft 12 is connected via an eccentric 27 to a block 13 slidable in the ram 5. Rotation of eccentric 27 adjusts the vertical position of the ram. Elongated-holes in the plates 4, 4a allow for vertical reciprocation of the ram. The other end of the lever arms (10), 11 rest on coaxial eccentrics (16) 15 respectively mounted on a shaft (17), Fig. 2. The shaft (17) is rigid with a wheel 18 driven by a motor 22 via a belt 21, gear 20 and pinion 19. To cause a working stroke the eccentries are rotated in direction G, Fig. 6, moving from the initial position, in which each contacts its respective arm at P, to the broken-line position which pivots the arms (10), 11 about the shaft 9 in a direction corresponding to direction G. This movement of the pivot P, to point P1, increases the magnitude of the movement (S), Fig. 5 (not shown), to S<SP>1</SP> to give maximum punching force when the tool has passed through approximately half the thickness of a workpiece.
