Abstract

660,674. Jet pulverizers. MICRONIZER, CO. Jan. 25, 1950 [Feb. 9, 1949], No. 3592/49. Class 59 [Also in Group XXX] Material is fed into the grinding chamber of a jet pulverizer in which the grinding fluid is maintained in circulation in a compact continuous mass. As shown applied to the type of pulverizer diclosed in Specification 432,191 the material is fed via hopper 47 into the feeder tube 21 the feeder screw 26 rotating therein forcing it into the grinding chamber 11 as a solid continuous plug the formation of which is possible by providing a restriction 24 in the chamber inlet 25 and preventing the end 27 of the screw from extending into said opening. Axial displacement of the screw 26 towards and away from inlet 25 is by an adjustable screw 44 and thrust head 43 bearing on either of a pair of thrust collars 41, 42, the stuffing box 32 preventing escape of grinding fluid from the end 31 of the feeder tube before the formation of the solid mass of material being fed through it. The grinding fluid is injected into the chamber 11 from the header 13 through inclined nozzles 16 the fluid and pulverized material escaping through the pipe 17 to suitable separating means.
