Abstract

699,738. Feeding device to pressure vessel. AMERICAN DEFIBRATOR, Inc. April 17, 1950. [April 21, 1949] No. 9376/50. Class 78(i.). Pulp material (Figs. 1, 2) is fed into pressure vessel 10 bv rotor 13, driven through sprocket 47 and enclosed by housing 14 resiliently mounted on the pressure vessel. Packing rings 19 are held by glands 20. As the rotor rotates anticlockwise, pulp falls into pocket 30, and the rotor is scraped by scraper 31, is injected with chemicals at 34, and then discharges into vessel 10, the discharge being aided by the respective steam jet 35, the conduit of the jet being formed in the rotor 13 and co-operating with aperture 43 of steam chamber 43 at the required moment during rotation. The steam which enters the pocket 30 from vessel 10 is discharged through pipe 45 later in the rotation. Housing 14 is resiliently held by spring bolts 22. Pipes 46 lubricate the rotor and bar 32 is adjustable at 33 to allow for wear of rotor. Housing 14 may be split and the two parts thereof may be held together by bolts, there being adjustable side supports to limit the spacing between the two parts. Pulp (Fig. 5) is fed into hopper 60 and passes down into funnel 61, whence it is delivered to pocket 30 of rotor 13 by screw 69. This delivery is assisted pneumatically, the compressed air carried in a pocket after material discharge passing away through pipe 45 (see above), and aspirating air through pipe 67 from the bottom of hopper 6] through holes 72, and injecting air into hopper 60 through jet 66.
