Abstract

660,175. Coke ovens. ALLIED CHEMICAL & DYE CORPORATION. June 7, 1949 [Aug. 4, 1948], No. 15076/49. Class 51 (ii). In an underjet regenerative coke oven battery having alternate high and low burner nozzles in the vertical heating flues forming the heating walls disposed transversely of the battery, the high burner nozzles 56 have a height within the range of 2.0-2.75 inches per foot of the flue height with the exception of the two extreme high nozzles 58 and 59 on the coke side which decrease in height to obtain uniform heating of the coke chambers. Nozzle 58 has a height within the range of 1.6-2.2 inches per foot of the flue height and nozzle 59 a height within the range of 1.2-1.8 inches per foot, while the corresponding range for all the low burners 55 is 0.35-0.5 inches per foot. Each heating wall is divided into two exterior groups of flues 19-26 and 36-41 and two interior groups of flues 28-35 and 43- 49 respectively with a horizontal top flue 42 on the coke side and another 27 on the pusher side, the exterior groups being simultaneously oper able for flow in one direction and the interior groups being simultaneously oper able for flow in the opposite direction U.S.A. Specifica tions 2,199,961 and 2,407,356 are referrec to.
