Abstract
658,659. Saws. YOUNG, S. G. Jan. 21, 1949, No. 1781. [Class 61(ii)] In hacksaws as described in Specification 594,228, the blade-supports each comprise a shaft 21 slidable in a cylindrical bearing 22 provided in the end of each frame member, a spring 23 being provided in each bearing for tensioning the blade prior to tension being applied by the adjustment of the frame parts. The blade is turned into the required cutting position by rotating the shaft 21 prior to adjustment of the frame parts 6 separation of which causes engagement of the outer ends 28 of the arms with the knobs 29 on the ends of the shafts and compression of the springs 23. Further rotation of the blade is prevented by sinusoidal engaging surfaces on the knobs and parts 28. Alternatively the end of the shaft 21 may be square and engage with a square part of the bearing 22.
