Abstract

656,073. Rotary-blade cutting-machines. GOSS PRINTING PRESS CO., Ltd. Oct..6, 1948, No. 26059. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1947. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Groups XVI and XXXII] A cut-off mechanism for the delivery mechanism of printing presses includes a cut-off cylinder 10 provided with a cut-off blade 15 projecting substantially radially between cheekwoods 20, 21, capable of limited radial movement relatively thereto, each cheekwood being biassed outwardly relatively to the blade by means of a laminated leaf spring 30 of bowed shape and means being provided for centring the spring with respect to the cheekwood while allowing limited angular tilting movement thereof. The spring comprises leaves 31 ... 35 secured together by a U-shaped clamp 40 having a lug 46 in engagement with an oversized hole 48 in the bottom of a channel in a knife bar 14. To prevent axial movement of the leaves, each leaf is provided with a convex offset portion while the clamp may include a dimple which engages the lowermost leaf 35. The knife bar 14 extends the length of a channel 11 in the cylinder 10 and is secured in position by a gib 16 retained in position by screws 17. The bar 14 is preferably formed of two L-shaped sections held together by bolts 14a and defining a channel 19 within which the blade 15 is positioned. The outward movement of the cheekwoods 20 and 21 is limited by pins 25 which engage slots 26 in the cheekwoods.
