Abstract
389,827. Stapling. QUICK, C. G., BALL, D. A., and WHITEHEAD, W. A., 109, Borough Road, London. Sept. 22, 1931, No. 26478. [Class 89 (iii).] Stapling-mechanism for printing-machines comprises a knife-cylinder 1 on which is mounted stapling-plungers 4 which co-operate with a fixed horn 5 located beyond the path of the knife edge so as to form the staples and effect the stapling operation outside the knife-edge path. A local enlargement 7 is provided on the cylinder 1 to support the plungers 4 and a corresponding flat 8 in formed on the adjacent gutter-cylinder 2. The operation of the plungers 4 is effected by a cam-oscillated shaft 13 which carries blocks 12 having teeth 11 engaging recesses in the plungers, and the plungers are so mounted on the cylinder that the staples carried thereby are radial with respect to the gutter-cylinder so as to be presented perpendicularly to the webs.
