Abstract

772,755. Cutting-machines. BARBER (NOTTINGHAM), Ltd., A., TAYLOR, H., and BARRON, P. Aug. 10, 1955 [Aug. 10, 1954], No. 23146/54. Class 31 (1). [Also in Group XVI] In a cutting and creasing machine in which the blank to be cut and creased is placed on a cutting plate mounted on a platen which moves the cutting plate up to a forme mounted on a bed, the lower edge of the cutting plate is connected to members which are attached to the sides of the platen and are movable relatively thereto to allow the cutting plate to be brought towards the front of the machine into a more accessible position. As shown, the lower edge of the cutting plate 1 is attached to a bar 2 which is located in a recess 3 in a platen 4, the ends of the bar being connected to the ends of arms 5, 6 pivoted at their other ends 7, 8 to the sides of the platen. The bar is normally held in position by means of spring- actuated fingers 9, 10 the ends of which engage in recesses 11, 12 in the bar, but can be disengaged therefrom by turning the cutting plate to the position C, Fig. 1, after which the cutting plate can readily be moved to either of the positions A or B, Fig. 1. The fingers 9, 10 are provided with stops 17 to limit their movement when the bar 2 is disengaged therefrom. The cutting plate is held in the position A by means of spring plungers 18, 19 engageable with holes 20 in the arms 5, 6, the spring plungers being movable to and held in an inoperative position by means of pins 21 located in L-shaped slots. The upper edge of the cutting plate is secured to the platen by means of releasable rotatable spring plungers 14, 15 having lateral extensions 16. In a modification the lower edge of the cutting plate is connected to slides mounted on the sides of the platen so that it can be drawn towards the front of the machine into a more accessible position.
