498,999. Calculating - apparatus. PRACISIONS MECHANISCHE UND OPTISCHE ANSTALT F. SUSS AKT.-GES., and KELER, T. VON. June 16, 1938, No. 17899. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1937. [Class 106 (i)] A device for effecting multiplication and division comprises an angle member 1 with slots 4, 9 arranged at right-angles and mounted for slidable and rotatable movement on a base (not shown) formed with slots 3, 5 and 6 as shown. A pin O secured to the base serves as a pivot and guide member for the angle member. In the slot 4 projects a pin A which is guided for transverse movement in the slot 6. Pins Band C project into the slot 9 and these pins are guided for movement in the slots 3 and 5 respectively. The base is provided with a graduated scale 7 adjacent the slot 6 and the slot 9 of the angle member bears a graduated scale 8. In operation for multiplication the factors a, b are set by displacing the pins A, B whereupon the pin C takes up a position so that the distance c is proportional to the product. The pin C may co-operate with a scale to indicate the product or the movement may be utilized to control other apparatus.
