Abstract

[Also in Groups XIX, XXIII and XXV] A height - gauge or other device for linear measurement, or for setting a machinetool table, comprises a grooved column 6, a slide 10 guided in the groove, micrometer means 15 for adjusting the position of the slide 10, and a number of equally-spaced fingers 36 extending from the slide 10, a scriber or index-member 37 being inserted between any two of the fingers 36, and having mounted thereon a fastening device 45 cooperating with the fingers 36 to retain it in position between them. As shown, the index member 37 is releasably secured by a wedgeclamp 45 (see Group XXV), between any pair of adjacent fingers 36. The range of adjustment of the micrometer 15 is equal to the distance between the upper edges of two adjacent fingers 36, and the slide 10 is held against the micrometer rod 20 by a compression spring 30 (not shown). The device may also be used for setting the table of a machine-tool in a preselected position; in this case it is constructed for use horizontally.
