Abstract
Needle selection is achieved on a flat bed machine by a series of serrated plates 6, 7, 8, Figs 1, 6, 8, not shown, positioned above the rear ends of the needles and adapted to be selectively lowered into an operative position. The cam carriage 24, Fig. 3, (not shown), has at each end a magnet 34 which raises the needles into engagement with the cams 33 as the carriage passes over them. The serrated plates permit and prevent determined needles to be so raised or retained lowered depending on the position of the notches in the plates and consequently pattening is achieved. The plates are mounted in a frame 10 supported by a base plate 11 on which is secured a cover 20 supporting levers 13, 14, 15 which when depressed lower the plates into their operative position. The frame plate 11 and cam are slidably movable to enable the position of the plates 6, 7, 8 to be shifted in relation to the needles.
