Abstract
879,542. Window blinds. METALLBAU, A. G. Feb. 7, 1958 [Feb. 8, 1957], No. 4055/58. Class 20(3) [Also in Group XXXIV] In a blind actuating device with driving and driven shafts, 3, 2 respectively at an angle to each other, the driven shaft 2 is slidable longitudinally in the gear casing 1 and the gears 5, 7 are retained in position by the driven shaft and the form of the casing in such a way that by sliding the shaft 2 out of the-casing the gears are removable. The gear 7 is a bevel gear mounted on a sleeve 8 which rotates freely on the shaft 2. At each end the sleeve has diametrically opposed recesses 10 so that either end of the sleeve may be brought into engagement with a pair of similarly disposed teeth 9 carried by a disc 12. From the disc extends a sleeve 13 the end of which is cut away to form a section 17. A sleeve 19 is keyed on to shaft 2 and ends in a section 18 corresponding to section 17. A coil spring 15 preferably of rectangular section is located within the casing 14 as shown. When drive is transmitted from shaft 3 to the section 17 the coil spring is tensioned and its diameter reduced. Section 17 then acts on section 18 and shaft 2 is rotated. If, however, drive is transmitted through shaft 2 by e.g. the weight of the blind, section 18 acts on the spring 15 so as to cause its diameter to increase, thus pressing the spring against the interior of casing 14 and preventing rotation of shaft 2. The gear casing 1 has a releasable cover 1a.
